Hi. I'm Jon.

I'm 27 years old. I'm nomadic, traveling around the world while working full-time as an engineer. I document my work, thoughts, and discoveries here.

My most recent trip was the third time I've been away from my home base for at least three months. Traveling for that long means that you have to pack differently. Learning how to carry only the things you really need, making the most of the things you carry, and understanding how little you need in your life is all part of this exercise.

Living nomadically forces you to be efficient and intentional with your things. You can't pack three month's worth of clothes, so you need to bring only what's easy to clean, wear, and carry. You have to think about how to turn every item into its own Swiss army knife: few things I travel with have only one use. The list of considerations goes on and on, and the end result is what you can fit into a backpack and a carry-on bag (I never check-in my luggage).

Thinking about this, I've taken a lot of inspiration from Matt and his annual post, What's in My Bag, and decided to publish my own "Travel Stack." He's documented his own stack for three separate years, and a number of items in my own list have come from his recommendations, those of my other friends, and personal exploration.

Take a look with the button above, shoot me any suggestions, and I'll be expanding on this more and more.
